This session will cover among other topics: defining complex projects, the nature and dimensions of project complexity, the imperative to managing complexity, CHOAS parameters for project success, left-brain/right-brain processing, the Standish groups "recipe for success" and how to plan, structure, develop & deliver complex projects.


Don Hinz is the founder of Advanced Resource Consulting, a Project Management vendor offering project management consulting and interactive online project management courses.

 

With 23 years of experience in IT systems development, project management, program management and project portfolio management, Don is a senior Project Manager with deep experience and industry knowledge.

 

His client list includes the Office of the Premier, ministries of agriculture and forestry and the social services sector.  In addition his diverse project portfolio covers procurement of Commercial Off the Shelf solutions, the development of custom database management systems, GIS applications, Automated Telephone Inquiry Systems, and the maintenance and enhancement of systems responsible for managing and distributing over $100 million in income assistance each month for BC’s welfare program.

 

Don's past experience includes establishing and operating the PMO Office for the BC Ministry of Housing and Social Development.  While there Don was responsible for an annual portfolio of 40 projects worth approximately $7 million.  He also served as Senior PM and project advisor on the $180 million Integrated Case Management Project.

 

Don's background spans the development and teaching of several undergraduate and graduate level classroom and online courses for Royal Roads University relating to project management.

 

He holds an undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Saskatchewan, an MBA from the University of Victoria and has been PMP certified since 2002.
